Netrooms [for percussion]

The performance was commissioned by percussionist Jonathan Shapiro and will take place on Sunday 4th April at the Staller Center music wing, Room 0111 (choral room) at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY

Netrooms [for percussion]

Netrooms [for percussion] explores the sound of a local percussionist as it travels through various acoustic environments. Each participant will set up a microphone capturing a space as nearby loudspeakers stream the sound of each percussion instrument. Please choose unique and perhaps extreme acoustic spaces such as bathrooms, concert halls, outdoors, domestic spaces, outdoors etc…
Participants will not be required to produce sound but incidental sound from the environment is welcome…

Time Requirements
Rehearsal: Sunday 4th April, 11:00-13:00 (EDT)
Performance: Sunday 4th April, 15:30-1630 (EDT)

Technical Requirements
- 1 laptop with Microphone (internal or external) and Loudspeaker (internal or external)
- Pd-extended 0.39.3-extended or higher (www.puredata.org)
- Patch provided when you email us
- Broadband Connection with UDP and TCP ports 8100 open

This performance will be mixed live at the Sonic Arts Research Centre in Belfast and transmitted to Calgary using ambisonic technologies and will be presented as part of Nettets 2010: Telemusic Concert at the Happening Festival, Syneme Telemedia Arts Lab at the University of Calgary.

Commission for a piece based on recent live recordings of Netrooms to be broadcast at Deutschlandradio Kultur later this month as part of “Newcomer Werkstatt”, “Klangkunst” slot on Deutschlandradio Kultur. Broadcast time will be on the night of September 24th/25th, 0.05 – 1 am.
